What is your relationship with plastic? More than you think. This ground-breaking feature documentary investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics to human health. Almost every bit of plastic ever made breaks down into microscopic particles that drift in the air, float in all bodies of water, and mix into the soil, becoming a permanent part of the environment… and found in us. Leading scientists are finding these particles in our bodies: organs, blood, brain tissue, and even the placentas of new mothers. What is the impact of these invisible invaders on our health? And can anything be done about it? The Anne Arundel Group of the Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club presents a free screening of the Plastic People documentary in partnership with the Anne Arundel Community College Super Science Club. The 82-minute film will be followed by a discussion of solutions with a panel of experts and Q&A moderated by Alex Bradford, President of Super Science Club. Confirmed speakers: Martha Ainsworth, Chair of the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter Zero Waste Team Dylan Beyler, Maryland State Delegate, District 30A Robert Carp, Professor of Chemistry, Anne Arundel Community College Matt Johnston, Executive Director, Arundel Rivers Federation See the evocative trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhOgnzuYkLM The event is free but the public is encouraged to obtain a ticket as space is limited.
